LIC To Digitise Policy Data

Adjudged as the best IT user insurance company in the country, the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India now goes tech-savvy to make all monetary transactions with its policyholders easy by a click of the mouse.

On the 52nd year of its nationalisation, LIC now plans to get rid of its paperwork during claim settlement and has plans to invest Rs. 600 crores for digitalising all the policy data by 2009 through enterprise document management system (EDMS), says Sidhartha Mohanty, Senior Divisional Manager of Cuttack LIC Division. Speaking to newsmen here during the ongoing Insurance Week celebrations, Mr. Mohanty said after the introduction of premium payment facility through any branch of the country, payments through Internet, credit cards, ATM counters and through the portals of payment gateways were now possible.

On EDMS, Mr. Mohanty said all dockets of policyholders, numbering around four crores, would now be digitalised and preserved in CDs after scanning.
