New Delhi: Air India and Gati, an express distribution and supply chain solution company, have tied up to unveil a dedicated freighter service. Air India had handed over a dedicated Boeing 737 aircraft to Gati that will be used to operate daily cargo flights on the Delhi-Mumbai-Bangalore-Delhi sector. The aircraft is the first of the five aircraft that Air India would be providing to Gati. The Chairman and Managing Director, Air India, Mr V. Thulasidas, said that the unveil of the service meant that the airline was the first scheduled passenger airline to enter the freighter market. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Gati Ltd, Mr Mahendra Agarwal, said that the partnership was likely to witness Gati''s business from the current Rs 461 crore to more than Rs 1,000 crore within two years. The company also mulls to infuse $100 million till June in establishing express distribution centres (EDC) and in re-engineering of technology and network.
