FLAG Telecom Group Ltd, a subsidiary of Anil Ambani promoted Reliance Communications Ltd (RCOM), is planning to enter the global market for network management with a three-year contract with US-based IT infrastructure consulting and services firm GlassHouse Technologies. Through FLAG, RCom will soon offer remote network management to global companies using facilities at its Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge Centre (DAKC) in Mumbai and the flag network.
RCOM has also finalised the global partner for this venture, which is Glasshouse Technologies Inc, a US based managed services Company which already serves companies like Morgan Stanley, AIG and Virgin Atlantic among others. The market for managed IT services is around $30 billion globally and RCOM sources say the company will target capturing a large part of this market by offering cheaper services than other global majors. While in the first phase RCOM will be tragetting various multinationals, it is also planning to provide remote network management to global telcos in the second phase. Most companies globally prefer remote management of their networks to bring down costs as well as maintain backups at offshore locations.
