The UPA government has sanctioned Rs 300 crore to Maharashtra to carry out various irrigation schemes, Union Minister of State for Water Conservation Jayprakash Narayan Yadav said on Jan 5. The fund is allotted to construct small tanks, check-dams and lift irrigation in the state. Yadav said government is also thinking to clear all pending water conservation proposals for Maharashtra by this month. Yadav said underground water level in the country was decreasing which was a serious matter. The Minister also said the Union government has taken a decision to spend Rs 6,000 crore from the 11th Finance Commission to improve the standards in the education sector.
