Hindustan Unilever ''s 1,100-member managerial talent pool, long-envied by its rivals, is expected to be reduced over the next few months. The company is likely to cut least 200 jobs. Industry experts and former HUL managers see it as a clear fallout of the sweeping job cuts across Unilever operations around the world ever since the Anglo-Dutch multinational announced a new cost-cutting plan in August last year. That plan entailed shedding 20,000 jobs and shutting down several units over the next four years. Being one of Unilever''s key growth markets, India was initially expected to be insulated from any job cut. This isn''t the first time that HUL has had to deal with redundancies. In the late nineties, HLL (as it was known then) faced an unexpected growth slowdown in its key markets of home and personal care and foods.
