Satyam Upbeat On ‘Value Engg’ Services
Hyderabad: IT solutions provider Satyam Computer is upbeat on the engineering services practice in general and ‘value engineering’ services for aerospace, automotive and consumer electronics verticals.
The company sees its engineering division contributing significantly over the next few years and the company vision is to take its contribution up from 7।5 per cent to double digits.

The Engineering Services Division employs over 4,200 people and has helped its customers co-create and file for over 100 product patents over the last three years, according to Dr. T.S.K. Murthy, Global Head of Integrated Engineering Services, Satyam Computer.
Dr. Muthy told Business Line, “We have partnered with several companies and help them bring about savings. These span even consumer durables such as washing machines, where a steel drum costing about $25 was substituted by a $5 drum,” he said. Recently, the focus on value engineering has grown where companies want to innovate and bring about products that are different from what competitors offer.
Global workshop
The company hosted a Global Value Engineering Workshop in Hyderabad at the Satyam Technology Centre this week, wherein some of its large customers such as TRW have converged.
The focus was to provide a forum for these corporations to see how innovations could help bring about changes in the products and thereby cost savings, Dr. Murthy said.

Satyam Computer Services Ltd has informed that Satyam BPO, the business process outsourcing arm of Satyam, a leading global business and information technology services Company, on April 10, 2008 announced that it has won two prestigious Shared Services Excellence awards from the International Quality and Productivity Council. The Company was honored in Orlando, Fla. during Shared Services Week, a conference organized by IQPC. Satyam BPO was a winner in the Best Business Process Outsource Provider and the first runner-up in the Best Customer Service Delivery Framework categories.
The IQPC Shared Services Excellence Awards honor, recognize, and promote Shared Services Organizations (SSOs) that demonstrate true best practices.
We are delighted and honored to receive the 2008 Best Business Process Outsource Provider and Best Customer Service Delivery Framework awards, said Satyam BPO Chief Executive Officer Venkatesh Roddam. These awards are a clear acknowledgement of the culture of process and delivery excellence that we have created at Satyam BPO, as well as our sustained efforts to offer our customers the best sourcing experience through a combination of people, process and innovation excellence.
Additionally, Roddam said, the awards recognize Satyam BPOs success in sharing best practices with its stakeholders, in addition to applying then to its own operations. Recently, the organization became the First Indian BPO to win the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award in the Large-Scale Service Industry category instituted by the Bureau of Indian Standards. It also won the Golden Peacock National Training Award 2007. Additionally Satyam BPO is the worlds first eSCM capability level 5 service provider, a certification given by the IT Services Qualification Center (ITsqc) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
For the Shared Services Excellence honors, Satyam BPO competed against global shared services organizations, including information technology and BPO organizations, as well as a number of clients. An eminent panel of judges scrutinized entries based on the range of services offered, clients, various people-centric measures, delivery and quality frameworks, technology, and other factors.

Satyam Computer Services Ltd has informed that the Board of Directors of the Company allotted 33,575 equity shares through circular resolution dated April 08, 2008, approved on April 09, 2008 under stock option plans of the Company.
Consequent to the above allotment, the paid up share capital of the Company has gone up from 670,515,677 equity shares of Rs 2/- each aggregating Rs 1,341,031,354.00 to 670,549,252 equity shares of Rs 2/- each aggregating Rs 1,341,098,504.00.

Satyam Computer - Byrraju Foundation & Satyam Make Tele-Medicine Available To Millions
Satyam Computer Services Ltd has announced that its global healthcare practice, working with the Byrraju Foundation, has implemented a program to provide tele-electrocardiograms (ECGs) to patients in remote areas of the country who would otherwise have no access to such care. Launched late last year, the program already covers some 3.5 million people in rural villages across India, and is delivered through the Byrraju Foundations Ashwini Centers, local facilities that provide high-quality healthcare, education, agriculture, and job training for villagers. In the past, patients would have had to travel to a city, at great cost, to receive an ECG or imperil their health by not having one at all.
With this capability, were able to treat many more patients from a central location, said Dr. Arun Kumar, and its become much easier for village clinics to identify patients who require immediate care.
As a provider of integrated, end-to-end healthcare solutions, Satyam was able to deliver a system that effectively and affordably operates in areas with minimal communications and computing infrastructure, providing complete clinical functionality. SN lnformatics, a technology alliance member in the project, provided its software for free.
As a non-profit organization, we are always conscious of creating self sustainable, cost-effective models, said Byrraju Foundation Lead Partner V S N Raju. Satyam has helped us in identifying and implementing scalable and affordable technology that meets our needs.
